What You'll Do

  • Design and develop novel robotic surgical instruments, including the procurement of components and prototype assembly.
  • Collaborate within a cross-functional team to define product requirements and functional specifications for robotic instruments.
  • Analyze and test product prototype designs, critically evaluate results, and present findings to the engineering team.
  • Provide comprehensive documentation including protocols, reports, and technical design reviews to solicit feedback on design activities.
  • Create and maintain SolidWorks CAD databases, ensuring accurate documentation of components and assemblies.
  • Contribute to risk assessments and make decisions based on industry standards and regulatory frameworks.
  • Engage with clinical experts to inform designs and identify user needs through workflow analysis.
  • Document and prepare patent submissions related to innovative designs.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in developing commercial medical products.
  • Proven ability to work in cross-functional R&D teams.
  • Strong command of evaluating designs through prototype testing and rigorous mathematical analysis.
  • Experience with materials and fabrication methods relevant to medical devices.
  • Proficiency in CAD software, specifically SolidWorks, for designing and documenting mechanisms.
  • Familiarity with GD&T and ASME/ISO drafting standards.
  • Experience with all phases of the product development lifecycle.
  • Knowledge of FDA QSR and ISO standards applicable to medical devices.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with robotics and electromechanical design.
  • Familiarity with design of experiments (DoEs) and statistical analysis.
  • Knowledge of PCBAs, sensors, and flexible circuits.
