About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Manager for the Physical Sciences Department to join our team at the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS). This role offers a unique opportunity to lead a professional workforce dedicated to tackling national security challenges. As a Senior Manager in the Physical Sciences Department, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the security of the United States and its allies through innovative scientific solutions.

What You'll Do

  • Lead and manage a multidisciplinary team of scientists, engineers, and technicians to deliver on current commitments and innovate for future national security threats.
  • Dedicate approximately 20% of your time to management responsibilities, including team mentorship, project coordination, and strategic planning.
  • Engage in direct technical work on customer-facing projects, applying your scientific expertise to solve complex challenges.
  • Oversee departmental budget and financial performance, including forecasting and variance management.
  • Maintain and improve service quality through rigorous standards and continuous process enhancement.
  • Establish and manage a clear framework to ensure the delivery of high-quality scientific support to all internal and external sponsors.
  • Champion and lead special projects for the Laboratory, coordinating collaboration with external partners.
  • Design and maintain operational systems, policies, and procedures to foster optimal team effectiveness.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent training and experience, with a minimum of 14 years of related experience.
  • Advanced degree in a relevant technical field is preferred.
  • Proven leadership skills and success in managing a team within a large organization.
  • Experience leading technical initiatives in scientific disciplines.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to resolve demands from diverse technical backgrounds.
  • Experience implementing and managing an integrated safety management program.
  • Deep knowledge in scientific aspects of experimental design and advanced diagnostic techniques.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with remote sensing and optical spectrometry.
  • Familiarity with quantum sensing technologies.
  • Previous work in a government or defense-related environment.
