Senior Electrical Engineer - BESS Focus (Remote)

About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer - BESS Focus (Remote) to join our innovative team at AFRY. In this role, you will engage in the development and execution of projects related to grid-connected battery storage systems (BESS), contributing to a greener future.

What You'll Do

• Collaborate on conceptual designs and feasibility studies for BESS projects.
• Create the electrical specifications for BESS projects, ensuring compliance with relevant standards.
• Evaluate bids and participate in negotiations with contractors.
• Conduct design reviews of electrical systems for large-scale BESS projects, including single-line diagrams and protection concepts.
• Monitor adherence to relevant standards, regulations, and grid connection requirements.
• Act as a BESS specialist in technical consulting projects and due diligence assessments.
• Work with multidisciplinary teams (civil engineering, mechanical engineering, I&C/SCADA, and project management) to deliver integrated solutions.
• Prepare and lead meetings, documenting discussions and outcomes.
• Travel occasionally within Germany and Europe to support project execution and business development.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering with a strong technical background.
• 3-5 years of professional experience in BESS projects, particularly in AC and DC systems up to medium voltage.
• Deep knowledge of protection technology and grid integration, enabling sound technical assessments of complex battery storage systems.
• Familiarity with relevant standards such as IEC and IEEE, grid connection requirements, and German regulations.
• Excellent communication skills in both German and English, both written and spoken.
• Ability to work independently while being team-oriented and collaborating effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
• Willingness to travel regularly within the DACH region for on-site construction and commissioning activities.

• Familiarity with software tools for electrical design and analysis.
