About the Role

We are looking for a Remote Staff Software Engineer - Backend to join our innovative team at Leona Health. As a Staff Software Engineer, you will play a crucial role in shaping and scaling our AI-powered platform that transforms doctor-patient communication. This position offers you the opportunity to work remotely while making a significant impact in the healthcare industry.

What You'll Do

• Take full ownership of projects that are both technically complex and business-critical.
• Collaborate closely with design, operations, data science, and medical professionals to deliver impactful product experiences.
• Work side-by-side with our CTO to evolve our engineering strategy and improve how we build.
• Help shape technical direction and product decisions as a core member of a small, high-performing team.
• Utilize your expertise in backend development using Python and manage production-scale infrastructure within AWS.
• Apply modern AI technologies to enhance our platform and improve healthcare outcomes.

Requirements

• 6+ years of relevant experience in software engineering with a strong track record of building and scaling complex software systems.
• Deep expertise in backend development using modern technologies, particularly Python.
• Familiarity with managing production-scale infrastructure within AWS.
• Comfortable working across the stack and owning projects end-to-end—from idea to launch to scale.
• Strong understanding of modern AI technologies and their application to real-world problems.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• A builder’s mindset with a passion for creating impactful solutions.

Nice to Have

• Experience in health tech or building communication tools (messaging, collaboration, etc.).
• Fluency in Spanish.
