About the Role

We’re hiring a Remote Security Infrastructure Engineer to join Tailscale's innovative team. In this role, you will play a crucial part in enhancing the security of our infrastructure while working remotely. Tailscale is dedicated to building a secure and interconnected Internet, and we need talented individuals like you to help us achieve this vision.

What You'll Do

  • Design and build security controls across various layers, including cloud platforms, operating systems, Kubernetes, networks, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Identify opportunities for security and privacy improvements, implementing bug fixes and defense-in-depth strategies across our codebase.
  • Conduct audits of Tailscale infrastructure to identify technical security weaknesses and propose effective mitigations.
  • Support engineering decisions with your expertise in threat modeling and security analysis.
  • Spend 25-50% of your time writing software, balancing operational responsibilities with governance security tasks.

Requirements

  • Proven technical expertise in securing cloud platforms, particularly AWS, and designing cloud-agnostic systems.
  • Familiarity with container security, orchestration security, and authentication/authorization protocols.
  • Understanding of internet/web security fundamentals, including WAFs, TLS, PKI, and DNS security.
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language, preferably Go, and experience with Infrastructure as Code tools like Terraform or Ansible.
  • Prior experience in a safety-related technical role, such as infrastructure security, security operations, or digital forensics.

Nice to Have

  • Knowledge of operating system internals and security mechanisms.
  • Familiarity with common networking protocols.
  • Experience acting as a Subject Matter Expert during security incidents.
