About the Role

We are seeking a Remote Director of Engineering to lead our engineering efforts at Alpaca, a pioneering financial services company. This role offers a unique opportunity to shape the engineering landscape in Canada while working remotely. As the Director of Engineering, you will be instrumental in building a world-class engineering organization and establishing Alpaca's presence in the Canadian market.

What You'll Do

• Lead the engineering division, setting the strategic direction and vision for the team.
• Architect critical financial infrastructure and oversee the development of our institutional-grade APIs.
• Facilitate communication between teams and executive leadership to ensure alignment on strategic initiatives.
• Guide transformational technical initiatives that span multiple divisions within the organization.
• Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, and empathy within the engineering team.

Requirements

• Proven experience as a Director of Engineering or in a similar leadership role within the financial services or technology sector.
• Strong technical background with a deep understanding of API architecture and financial systems.
• Exceptional leadership skills with the ability to inspire and motivate a diverse team.
• Experience in strategic planning and execution, particularly in a remote work environment.
• Excellent communication skills, capable of liaising effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Nice to Have

• Experience in the crypto or blockchain space.
• Familiarity with open-source contributions and community engagement.
• Previous experience in building teams from the ground up.
