Software Engineer - IBM & Java Focus (Remote)

About the Role

Join our dynamic software engineering team as a Software Engineer (remote) at H.Essers! In this role, you will be part of a highly skilled group responsible for designing, developing, implementing, and maintaining IBM-based applications that are central to our business processes.

What You'll Do

• Contribute to the technical development of applications within our own IBMi and JEF platform (Java Essers Framework).
• Guide the transition to the new RockIT platform, ensuring a smooth integration of existing systems.
• Engage in project management activities, including managing your weekly or sprint planning and reporting progress.
• Collaborate on the architecture and design of our IBMi solutions to create robust, scalable, and efficient applications.
• Ensure compliance with development and quality standards, conducting tests to verify that designs are accurately implemented according to specifications.
• Provide technical support for application issues, performing analyses and resolving technical challenges with a focus on continuous improvement.
• Take ownership of domain knowledge, bridging the gap between functional and technical domains, and translating business needs into technical solutions.
• Work with a wide range of technologies, including Domain Driven Design, Kubernetes, Spring, Hibernate, Kafka, DB2, PostGres, Azure, Eventual Consistency, React, and more.

Requirements

• Strong technical background with experience in software engineering and application development.
• Proficiency in IBM technologies and Java frameworks.
• Experience with project management methodologies.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
• Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to challenges.
• Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and concepts.
• Experience with cloud platforms such as Azure is a plus.
• Fluency in English is required; knowledge of Dutch or French is a plus.

Nice to Have

• Familiarity with Domain Driven Design principles.
• Experience with containerization technologies like Docker and orchestration tools like Kubernetes.
• Knowledge of event-driven architectures and messaging systems like Kafka.
