Part-Time Bus Driver - Alexandria Area YMCA
About the Role
We are looking for a dedicated and safety-conscious Bus Driver to join the Alexandria Area YMCA team. This part-time position offers approximately 25 hours per week, primarily during daytime hours. As a Bus Driver, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safe transportation of children to and from YMCA programs. What You'll Do
- Safely operate the bus in accordance with YMCA policies and state laws.
- Complete detailed pre- and post-trip inspections to ensure the bus is in safe operating condition.
- Record mileage, gas levels, and maintenance information accurately.
- Maintain a clean and safe bus environment for all passengers.
- Ensure that bus safety rules are clearly communicated and followed by all passengers.
- Keep first aid supplies stocked and accessible for emergencies.
- Respond appropriately in emergency situations, ensuring the safety of all passengers.
- Build positive relationships with children, parents, and staff to foster a supportive atmosphere.
- Communicate regularly with supervisors and team members regarding any issues or updates.
- Provide additional program support as assigned to enhance the YMCA experience.
Requirements
- At least one year of bus driving experience is preferred.
- A valid CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) appropriate for passenger transport is required.
- Knowledge of laws and regulations related to commercial passenger vehicles is essential.
- CPR and First Aid certification must be obtained within 30 days of hire.
- Ability and desire to work with children in a positive and engaging manner.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills are necessary for this role.
- Excellent safety awareness and sound judgment are critical for ensuring passenger safety.
