Legal Counsel - Remote FinTech Opportunity

About the Role

Join Almond FinTech as a Legal Counsel - Remote and play a pivotal role in transforming cross-border payments. As a key member of our team, you will provide legal guidance that empowers financial institutions and their customers with the best possible FX rates and near-instant settlements globally.

What You'll Do

• Act as the go-to legal partner for product, engineering, compliance, and leadership, embedded in day-to-day decision-making.
• Structure and review products involving money transmission, stored value, FX, and settlement.
• Advise on U.S. and global securities and issues across tokenized assets.
• Lead legal strategy on crypto and digital assets, including custody, transfers, staking, stablecoins, and regulatory classification.
• Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements with vendors, banks, payment partners, APIs, custodians, etc.
• Support regulatory exams, audits, and inquiries as needed.
• Work closely with compliance to design scalable, practical controls that align with business goals.

Requirements

• JD from an accredited law school and licensed (or license-eligible) to practice law.
• 8+ years of relevant experience in fintech, financial services, crypto, or a top law firm with strong regulatory exposure.
• Up-to-date knowledge of securities law, especially as it applies to fintech and digital assets.
• Strong understanding of crypto regulatory frameworks (U.S. and global) and their practical applications.
• Experience with or deep familiarity with cross-border money transfers, payments, or FX.
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-ambiguity startup environment.
• Business-minded, pragmatic, and willing to roll up sleeves.
• Excellent judgment, communication skills, and ability to explain complex legal issues clearly.

Nice to Have

• Experience working directly with regulators.
• Familiarity with non-U.S. regimes (EU, UK, APAC, LATAM).
• Background in payments, banking-as-a-service, or crypto infrastructure.
• Startup or high-growth company experience.
