Director of Legal Operations - Remote

About the Role

We are seeking a Director of Legal Operations to join our team at Kraken. As a fully remote company, you will be part of a world-class team dedicated to building the future of crypto. This Director of Legal Operations remote position is pivotal in shaping our legal strategy and operations as we continue to grow and innovate in the crypto space.

What You'll Do

• Serve as the Directly Responsible Individual (DRI) for Legal Operations, overseeing legal technology, data management, and execution.
• Lead the implementation of our Legal AI strategy, partnering with Engineering, Product, Security, and Finance to modernize Kraken’s legal function.
• Design and evolve Legal’s operating model, identifying inefficiencies and driving scale across workflows and processes.
• Manage Legal’s financial and resourcing foundations, ensuring the right work is done by the right resources at the right cost.
• Govern Legal’s technology stack, preventing tool sprawl through standardization and compliance.
• Establish metrics and operational controls to provide visibility into legal demand, workload, spend, and outcomes.
• Enable attorneys to focus on high-value judgment and advisory work through process, technology, and AI enablement.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience in Legal Operations, legal technology, and finance-adjacent operational leadership.
• Proven track record in scaling legal operations and managing legal tech in complex environments.
• Demonstrated leadership in driving automation and AI initiatives from strategy to secure deployment.
• Deep understanding of core legal workflows and the ability to redesign inefficient processes.
• Hands-on experience with legal technology platforms, including CLM and matter management.
• Strong executive communication skills, with comfort operating in ambiguity.

Nice to Have

• Experience in fintech, crypto, or other highly regulated industries.
• Background in enterprise AI governance or secure deployment of AI systems.
• Prior people management experience within Legal Operations.
