Deputy Principal Associate Director for Science and Technology
About the Role
We are seeking a Deputy Principal Associate Director for Science and Technology to join our team at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL). This position is critical for enhancing the United States' security and involves leading significant science and technology initiatives. As a Deputy Principal Associate Director for Science and Technology remote role, you will collaborate with some of the brightest minds in the industry to formulate strategies that drive innovation and excellence.
What You'll Do
- Serve as a senior advisor to the Principal Associate Director and Program Directors on major science and technology issues.
- Lead the development of strategic goals to achieve LLNL objectives in science and technology.
- Advocate for the Directorate's initiatives and represent the PAD in interactions with internal and external agencies.
- Formulate long-range technical strategies to enhance visibility of science and scientists within the external scientific community.
- Oversee the proposal and selection process for the Laboratory Directed Research and Development (LDRD) portfolio.
- Manage budgets, schedules, and performance standards to meet Laboratory and Department of Energy (DOE) requirements.
- Develop recruitment strategies for attracting world-class scientists and engineers.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support the Laboratory's mission.
Requirements
- Active DOE Q clearance with Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) access.
- Ph.D. in science, engineering, or a related technical field.
- Extensive experience managing large, multidisciplinary teams in a research and development environment.
- Proven ability to influence change and lead technical initiatives.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills for effective leadership and collaboration.
- Significant experience in strategic and technical analysis.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain effective working relationships across various organizational levels.
- Expertise in programs related to NIF&PS and familiarity with relevant institutional and DOE requirements.
Nice to Have
- Technical understanding of programs related to the National Ignition Facility and Photon Science.
- Experience with institutional, University of California, and DOE requirements.
