About the Role

The Surfrider Foundation is excited to offer a unique opportunity for a graduate student through the Coasts and Climate Graduate Student Internship - Remote. This internship is designed for the summer of 2026, allowing you to contribute significantly to environmental initiatives while working remotely. As a participant, you will receive a stipend of $7,500 to help cover living expenses during your internship.

What You'll Do

  • Contribute to Surfrider’s annual assessment of state coastal resilience policies.
  • Conduct policy, law, and legislative research and analysis on state laws related to sea level rise planning.
  • Produce written content for Surfrider’s Coastal Blog focusing on climate change and coastal policy issues.
  • Assist in the development of policy documents and comment letters.
  • Help create state-directed coastal policy memos.
  • Engage in regular Zoom meetings and conference calls with the team.
  • Demonstrate a passion for addressing climate change and its impacts on U.S. coasts.
  • Utilize your knowledge of coastal and ocean policy, particularly the Coastal Zone Management Act.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a graduate program focused on coastal policy or environmental management.
  • Experience conducting thorough research projects and policy analysis.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
  • Proficient with Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Zoom.
  • Completion of the internship must result in academic credit.

Nice to Have

  • Previous internship experience in environmental policy or coastal management.
  • Familiarity with legislative processes related to environmental issues.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
