Associate Data Scientist - Remote Opportunity at Wallapop

About the Role

We are looking for an Associate Data Scientist to join Wallapop, a Barcelona-based scale-up dedicated to empowering conscious consumption. This remote position offers you the chance to work with a dynamic team and make a significant impact on our platform, which operates across Spain, Italy, and Portugal. As an Associate Data Scientist, you will play a crucial role in enhancing marketplace dynamics through end-to-end machine learning (ML) solutions.

What You'll Do

• Collect, clean, and analyze large datasets from diverse sources, including user behavior, transactions, and market trends.
• Develop and implement machine learning models to solve business problems, such as personalized recommendations, fraud detection, and pricing optimization.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary product teams to identify opportunities and gather requirements.
• Own initiatives from start to deployment: ideation, data processing (ETL), modeling, testing, deployment, monitoring, and iteration.
• Proactively suggest, research, and prototype new ideas for data and ML solutions.
• Communicate complex data insights to both technical and non-technical audiences, including stakeholders involved in marketplace operations.

Requirements

• A degree in a quantitative field (Engineering, Math, Stats, Physics) or equivalent practical experience in data science.
• Proficiency in Python and the ability to write clean, maintainable code for ML applications.
• A proven track record of building and deploying data products that solve business challenges in a production environment.
• Advanced SQL skills and experience handling large datasets (knowledge of libraries like Pandas or Scikit-learn is highly valued).
• Solid understanding of Machine Learning fundamentals, specifically as they apply to personalization or recommender systems.
• Experience working with Search, recommendations, and Ranking models in production environments.

Nice to Have

• Experience working within an eCommerce or Marketplace platform, or in a product-tech company.
• Experience with AWS cloud services (Redshift, S3, Lambda) and cloud MLaaS solutions such as Amazon SageMaker.
