Utilities Maintenance Technician - Remote Opportunity
About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated Utilities Maintenance Technician to join our team at the City of St. Pete Beach. This role offers an exciting opportunity to perform skilled and semi-skilled work in the maintenance and repair of wastewater and stormwater collection systems, as well as the reclaimed water distribution system. As a Utilities Maintenance Technician, you will operate specialized equipment, conduct routine and emergency maintenance tasks, and ensure compliance with safety and environmental standards. This position is supervised by the Utilities Crew Chief and is essential for maintaining the integrity of our utility systems.
What You'll Do
- Check wastewater, stormwater, and reclaimed water systems periodically to ensure functionality, documenting and recommending necessary repairs.
- Perform repairs and maintenance on wastewater and stormwater collection systems as needed or assigned, assisting or monitoring contractors during emergency repairs.
- Make mechanical repairs on engines, pumps, electrical and mechanical controls, and compressors, utilizing hand, bench, and machine tools effectively.
- Conduct inspections of utility line breaks to determine the impacted water system and coordinate with the appropriate maintenance department.
- Utilize heavy equipment such as front-end loaders, Vac-Con trucks, and skid steers to support maintenance and emergency operations.
- Respond to emergency situations as needed, including after-hours assignments, ensuring timely and effective resolution of issues.
- Complete work orders in the management system assigned, contributing to efficient operations.
- Provide support for storm recovery efforts, including debris removal and cleanup.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; completion of technical school is preferred.
- Some experience in maintenance or construction work is preferred.
- Valid State of Florida driver’s license.
- Must complete emergency management-related training as required by City leadership within three months of hire.
- Must obtain FDOT Flagger Operations certificate within six months of hire.
- Must obtain FDEP Florida Stormwater, Erosion, Sedimentation Control Inspector (FSESCI) within one year of hire.
- OSHA 10-hour construction safety certification is preferred.
- Availability to work outside normal hours during emergencies, including weekends and holidays.
