About the Role

We are looking for a Senior Staff Engineer - Payments Compliance Remote to join our dynamic team at Airbnb. In this role, you will lead the architectural direction and technical vision for our compliance systems, ensuring they are scalable and aligned with regulatory requirements. This position is pivotal in maintaining the integrity of our payments platform, which facilitates seamless transactions across 191 countries and 75 currencies.

What You'll Do

• Lead the technical vision for Payments Compliance, driving foundational architectural shifts.
• Architect systems that comply with regulations, ensuring adaptability to regulatory changes.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance system performance and compliance.
• Mentor engineers, raising technical standards and fostering a culture of excellence.
• Manage end-to-end system design, focusing on long-term platform development.
• Support the expansion of KYC capabilities, ensuring robust compliance measures.
• Influence senior stakeholders to align on compliance strategies and initiatives.
• Utilize your extensive experience to solve complex problems and drive innovation.

Requirements

• 15+ years of technical experience in software development.
• 10+ years in a fast-paced tech environment, preferably in FinTech.
• Experience with AML and KYC standards is essential.
• Excellent communication skills to effectively collaborate with diverse teams.
• Strong problem-solving abilities and a hands-on approach to project leadership.
• BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science or a related field.
• Proficiency in back-end server languages and understanding of high-scale web applications.
• Ownership mentality across teams, driving accountability and results.

Nice to Have

• Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure.
• Familiarity with data privacy regulations and compliance frameworks.
• Knowledge of payment processing systems and technologies.
