Senior DevOps Engineer - High-Performance Trading Infrastructure
About the Role
We are seeking a Senior DevOps Engineer to play a critical role in designing, operating, and scaling high-performance, low-latency trading infrastructure. This Senior DevOps Engineer remote position sits at the intersection of engineering, trading, and quantitative research, where infrastructure reliability and speed directly impact live trading performance. You will own automation, tooling, observability, and operational excellence across on-premises systems, co-located data centers, and containerized environments, while partnering closely with software engineers, traders, and quants in a fast-paced, performance-driven environment.
This is a hands-on senior role with real ownership, minimal bureaucracy, and direct influence over system design decisions. As a Senior DevOps Engineer remote, you will architect, build, and maintain highly reliable, low-latency infrastructure supporting automated trading systems.
What You'll Do
- Own end-to-end DevOps practices across on-prem, co-located data centers, and containerized platforms.
- Design and implement automation for deployments, workflows, system operations, and data pipelines.
- Develop internal tooling to improve system reliability, observability, performance, and operational efficiency.
- Lead troubleshooting efforts for complex, production-critical issues spanning applications, networks, operating systems, and hardware.
- Implement and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and configuration management practices.
- Manage and optimize containerized environments and support application deployments in latency-sensitive systems.
- Partner with engineers and quants to ensure production readiness, scalability, and fault tolerance.
- Support database administration, monitoring, performance tuning, and reliability as part of overall platform health.
Requirements
- 8+ years of professional experience in DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering, Platform Engineering, or Infrastructure Engineering.
- Proven experience operating mission-critical, high-performance production systems.
- Deep expertise in Linux and strong working knowledge of Windows environments.
- Strong troubleshooting skills across OS, networking, storage, containers, and applications.
- Advanced scripting and automation skills in Python, Bash, PowerShell, or similar languages.
- Hands-on experience with containerization technologies and deployment workflows.
- Solid understanding of databases, monitoring, performance tuning, and reliability concepts.
- Experience implementing observability best practices (metrics, logs, alerts).
Nice to Have
- Experience in proprietary trading, financial services, or low-latency systems.
- Exposure to co-located data centers or hardware-adjacent infrastructure.
- Background in performance optimization, network tuning, or systems engineering.
- Experience mentoring or acting as a technical lead.
What We Offer
- Competitive base salary with meaningful discretionary bonus.
- Comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, vision, retirement plans, and paid time off.
- Relocation assistance for candidates moving to Chicago.
- Daily catered lunch, snacks, beverages, and discounted gym memberships.
- Ongoing training, learning support, and clear growth opportunities as the firm scales.
This Senior DevOps Engineer role offers a unique opportunity to work on high-performance trading infrastructure with minimal bureaucracy and direct impact on live trading performance.
