Rust Backend Developer - AI Expert (Remote)

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Rust Backend Developer - AI Expert to join our customer’s team in a fully remote capacity. As a Rust Backend Developer, you will contribute to AI-assisted developer tools and build robust, scalable backend systems. This role blends Rust expertise with hands-on AI model testing in Cursor, shaping the next generation of developer workflows.

What You'll Do

• Design, develop, and optimize REST and GraphQL endpoints for scalable backend systems.
• Implement data validation, error handling, and security best practices within backend services.
• Plan and execute database migrations, schema changes, and performance optimizations.
• Test AI-powered models in Cursor, providing detailed incident reports, bug traces, and screenshots.
• Participate in 4-day intensive testing bursts, evaluating AI impact on real coding workflows.
• Collaborate with the research team in Slack to propose improvements and share insights.
• Submit detailed post-burst surveys to report on model performance and developer experience.

Requirements

• 3+ years of professional backend development experience with strong expertise in Rust.
• Proficient in building and maintaining RESTful and GraphQL APIs.
• Advanced understanding of backend data validation, error handling, and API security.
• Hands-on experience with database migrations, schema design, and performance tuning.
• Familiarity with AI coding tools; experience with Cursor highly desirable.
• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills for clear incident and bug reporting.
• Proven ability to thrive in fast-paced, confidential, and collaborative remote environments.

Nice to Have

• Contributions to open-source projects (e.g., GitHub stars or repositories).
• Experience designing or evaluating experimental developer tooling or workflows.
• Demonstrated enthusiasm for AI advancements in software development.
