About the Role
Spry Methods is looking for a Remote Senior Enterprise Middleware Engineer to join our team supporting the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). This role is pivotal in enhancing and integrating enterprise middleware solutions, particularly focusing on IBM WebSphere Application Server, IBM MQ, and Oracle-based applications. As a Remote Senior Enterprise Middleware Engineer, you will play a crucial role in transitioning USDA's systems to modern cloud environments while ensuring operational excellence.
What You'll Do
- Provide senior-level engineering support for enterprise procurement and financial applications, ensuring optimal performance and reliability.
- Administer and support IBM WebSphere Application Server and IBM MQ, deploying and maintaining workloads on Linux-based platforms, including Azure-hosted environments.
- Lead modernization efforts for legacy systems, particularly migrating from AIX to Azure Linux platforms.
- Support Oracle-based applications and develop PL/SQL packages to enhance integration with middleware platforms.
- Collaborate with cloud, DevOps, and security teams to implement CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure automation.
- Ensure compliance with federal security standards such as FedRAMP and NIST 800-53.
- Document engineering processes, system architecture, and operational runbooks to facilitate knowledge sharing.
- Engage with stakeholders to provide recommendations and risk assessments, participating in Agile ceremonies and change control processes.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or equivalent experience.
- 8+ years of experience supporting enterprise applications and middleware environments.
- Strong hands-on experience with IBM WebSphere Application Server and IBM MQ in production environments.
- Experience with enterprise Java EE / Jakarta EE applications and integrations.
- Proficiency in Oracle databases and PL/SQL.
- Strong Linux administration skills and experience in hybrid or cloud-hosted environments (Azure preferred).
- Scripting experience in Bash, Python, or PowerShell.
- Understanding of enterprise security principles and federal compliance requirements.
Nice to Have
- Experience with PRISM or large-scale federal procurement systems.
- Familiarity with Azure DevOps pipelines, Terraform, Ansible, or CI/CD automation.
- Knowledge of Docker and Kubernetes in enterprise contexts.
- Strong communication skills to interface with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
