Remote Deputy Editor for Future Perfect - Innovative Media

About the Role

We're hiring a Remote Deputy Editor for Future Perfect to join our innovative team at Vox Media. In this role, you'll be instrumental in shaping impactful stories that resonate with audiences and drive meaningful change. As a Deputy Editor, you will manage and mentor a team of reporting fellows, guiding them in their journalistic journey while ensuring the highest quality of content.

What You'll Do

• Manage and edit three reporting fellows, helping them generate strong ideas and select compelling stories.
• Guide the fellows in executing ambitious reporting and publishing clean, sharp copy on a consistent basis.
• Provide coaching and skills development, including planning and leading occasional training sessions.
• Oversee and edit Future Perfect’s twice-weekly newsletter, ensuring engaging and informative content.
• Collaborate closely with the editor of Future Perfect to recruit and select the next class of fellows.

Requirements

• Proven experience in editorial roles, with a focus on managing and mentoring junior staff.
• Strong understanding of media, technology, and storytelling.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent editing and communication skills.
• Passion for covering topics related to emerging technology, philanthropy, global health, and animal welfare.

Nice to Have

• Experience in newsletter production and audience engagement strategies.
• Familiarity with digital media trends and best practices.
• Background in journalism or a related field.
