Principal Backend Software Engineer - AI/​ML Focus (Remote)

About the Role

We are seeking a Principal Backend Software Engineer - AI/ML Focus to join our team at Oracle Health Data Intelligence (HDI). This is a unique opportunity to work remotely and lead the design and development of innovative AI/ML applications that enhance healthcare outcomes. As a key member of our HDI AI Platform team, you will leverage your expertise in backend development to create scalable solutions that integrate advanced analytics and artificial intelligence into healthcare systems.

What You'll Do

• Lead the design, development, and optimization of AI/ML applications/models at scale leveraging Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI).
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including data scientists, software engineers, and business stakeholders, to deliver cutting-edge AI/ML solutions.
• Ensure data quality, governance, and ethical use throughout the AI/ML lifecycle.
• Stay abreast of advancements in AI/ML, such as LLMs and RAG, incorporating relevant innovations into the organization's systems and practices.
• Advocate for the adoption of AI/ML technologies and best practices across teams and departments.
• Mentor and develop other engineers on the team, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
• Contribute to the design and review of technical architecture across the HDI organization.
• Balance product feature development with production operational concerns, including writing run books, ops automation, and structured logging.
• Participate in on-call duties for the services within the team and resolve issues as they arise.

Requirements

• Proficient in Python with a strong background in backend development.
• Experience in Data Science and/or Machine Learning at an architect level.
• Familiarity with AI Agents, LLM, or Vector DB is a significant plus.
• Prior experience working on distributed systems at a cloud service provider.
• Experience with at least one relational or NoSQL database.
• Knowledge of common service-oriented design patterns and service-to-service communication protocols.
• Familiarity with modern infrastructure components like service discovery and software-defined networking.
• Experience with production operations and best practices for deploying quality code.
• Excellent communication skills for conveying technical ideas verbally and in writing.

Nice to Have

• Experience with Generative AI applications.
• Familiarity with ethical AI practices.
• Knowledge of healthcare data regulations.
