About the Role

We are excited to announce a Postdoc Position in Roman History and Climate Change at the University of Southern Denmark. This unique opportunity allows you to contribute to groundbreaking research that connects climate science with historical analysis. The role is fully remote, enabling you to work collaboratively with experts across Europe and Canada.

What You'll Do

  • Develop an agricultural model for Italy and the eastern Mediterranean during the 4th to 1st centuries BCE.
  • Analyze paleoclimate proxy data to assess historical agricultural conditions.
  • Translate complex climate data into actionable parameters for modeling ancient agricultural production.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams at the Department of Culture and Language and the SDU Climate Cluster.
  • Contribute to the research project "Here Comes the Invincible Sun: Toward a Climate History of the Roman Conquest."

Requirements

  • A PhD in climate science, geoscience, agricultural studies, or related fields.
  • Experience with agricultural modeling frameworks is essential.
  • Familiarity with paleoclimate data is a significant advantage.
  • The PhD must be obtained within the last 8 years.
  • Strong English language skills are required for effective communication.

Nice to Have

  • Experience adapting models to data-limited contexts.
  • Knowledge of agricultural or agroecological modeling.
  • Interest in interdisciplinary research connecting climate and history.
