Mobile Staff Engineer - Remote Position

About the Role

We're hiring a Mobile Staff Engineer to join our dynamic team at Sanderson. This fully remote position is perfect for a skilled engineer based in the UK, offering a competitive salary of up to £84,000. As a Mobile Staff Engineer, you will lead the technical direction of native Android and iOS applications while guiding the transition from cross-platform solutions to true native development. This role is crucial in enhancing mobile engineering maturity across squads that build customer-facing apps used at a national scale.

What You'll Do

• Architect, design, and deliver complex native mobile solutions across Android and iOS platforms.
• Ensure seamless integration between mobile applications, web layers, and back-end services.
• Champion Test-Driven Development (TDD), secure coding practices, performance optimization, and Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD).
• Establish and enforce mobile engineering best practices and patterns, such as MVVM and Clean Architecture.
• Lead technical reviews, produce high-quality documentation, and progress the technical roadmap.
• Coach and mentor engineers; foster a culture of trust, creativity, and continuous improvement.
• Contribute actively to Agile ceremonies and collaborate closely with product, web/software, and data teams.
• Own non-functional requirements and guide teams through app store submission and release processes.

Requirements

• Expertise in native mobile development for Android (Kotlin/Java, Android Studio) and iOS (Swift/Objective-C, Xcode).
• Proven track record of shipping applications to the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
• Experience designing robust mobile architectures.
• Strong CI/CD experience for mobile applications.
• Solid understanding of security best practices and performance profiling.
• Experience with analytics, crash reporting, and push notifications.
• Excellent communication and influence skills; ability to mentor and uplift teams.

Nice to Have

• Familiarity with modern JavaScript frameworks.
• Experience with Capacitor and cross-platform solutions.
• Knowledge of Agile methodologies.
