Lead Physical Design Subsystem Engineer - Remote Opportunity

About the Role

Astera Labs is seeking a Lead Physical Design Subsystem Engineer to join our team remotely. This role is pivotal in driving the development of complex semiconductor chips that address critical data bottlenecks for AI at scale. As a Lead Physical Design Subsystem Engineer, you will take on significant product ownership, defining backend execution methodologies for chips that power the world's largest AI clusters.

What You'll Do

• Build and mentor a high-performing team focused on Physical Design execution from Synthesis to Signoff.
• Take full ownership of Subsystem physical implementation, including floorplanning, P&R, CTS, Power/Clock distribution, and Timing/Physical signoff.
• Collaborate closely with Architecture, Design, DFT, and Product teams to optimize Power Performance Area (PPA).
• Conduct feasibility studies for new architectures and optimize runs to ensure the best Quality of Results (QoR).
• Lead and guide external contractors and global partners for seamless execution and delivery.
• Address complex signal integrity, thermal, and power challenges in high-speed connectivity silicon.

Requirements

• B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering.
• 15+ years of hands-on experience in Physical Design/Backend at leading semiconductor companies.
• Proven leadership experience with a "can-do" approach and excellent communication skills.
• Deep expertise in RTL2GDS flows, including P&R, STA, Physical verification (DRC/LVS), and low-power implementation.
• Mastery of industry-standard EDA tools such as Synopsys Fusion Compiler/ICC2 and Cadence Innovus.

Nice to Have

• Deep understanding of Power & Noise analysis (EM/IR).
• Experience with DFT (Design for Test) integration.
• Background in high-speed interfaces or data center protocols.
