Lead PHP Developer - API Focus (Remote)

About the Role

We are looking for a Lead PHP Developer to join our team remotely. In this role, you will be responsible for the design, development, and operation of high-performance, scalable PHP-based backend services and APIs. You will ensure that our systems meet user demands and maintain high software quality through testing, code reviews, and observability practices.

What You'll Do

  • Design and develop robust PHP backend services and APIs.
  • Conduct performance analysis and optimization of applications and database queries to enhance efficiency.
  • Participate actively in architectural and design decisions to ensure system maintainability and resilience.
  • Collaborate closely with an agile team, sharing knowledge and supporting less experienced colleagues.
  • Ensure stable releases and high software quality to detect failures and errors early.

Requirements

  • Completed degree in Computer Science or Information Technology, or equivalent technical training with several years of development experience.
  • Extensive experience in developing complex system landscapes.
  • Strong knowledge of relational and multimodal databases (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL, MS SQL Server) focusing on data modeling and performance.
  • Experience with testing strategies, CI/CD processes, and observability concepts and tools like OpenTelemetry.
  • Several years of PHP expertise in developing modern backend and frontend systems, as well as experience with message brokers like Kafka.
  • Fluent in both German and English.
  • Strong communication skills and a sense of responsibility.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with cloud services and microservices architecture.
  • Knowledge of front-end technologies such as JavaScript frameworks.
