IT Support Specialist - Remote Opportunity
About the Role
We are seeking an enthusiastic IT Support Specialist to join the JILA Computing Group at the University of Colorado Boulder. This IT Support Specialist remote position offers an exciting opportunity to provide frontline computing support for JILA’s scientists, students, and staff across a variety of devices and operating systems. You will primarily work with Windows systems, but also assist with macOS and Linux environments.
What You'll Do
- Provide strong end-user support by responding to help requests, diagnosing problems, and resolving issues efficiently.
- Install, configure, and maintain Windows desktops, laptops, and peripherals, ensuring optimal performance.
- Assist users with software installation, licensing, updates, and compatibility issues.
- Resolve hardware failures, driver issues, and system performance problems, including malware detection and removal.
- Collaborate with research staff to provision computing infrastructure and assist users with accessing departmental and campus resources.
- Develop scripts to automate routine administrative tasks and maintain documentation of support procedures.
- Participate in team meetings and training sessions to enhance your skills and knowledge.
- Occasionally work in lab spaces and assist with network problem-solving, including connectivity and IP addressing.
Requirements
- A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience.
- 1+ years of experience installing, configuring, and troubleshooting Windows systems.
- Experience with Active Directory infrastructure and creating/modifying Group Policy Objects (GPOs).
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to translate technical information for non-technical users.
- Basic networking knowledge, including DHCP and DNS.
- Ability to lift computer hardware and install cabling.
- Familiarity with other operating systems (macOS, Linux) and audio/visual equipment.
Nice to Have
- 3+ years of relevant experience in IT support.
- Certifications such as CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network+, or Microsoft Certified Professional.
- Experience with imaging tools and remote access tools.
- Familiarity with scientific computing software (e.g., LabVIEW, MATLAB, Python).
- Understanding of virtualization and containerization.
