Entry-Level Data Engineer - Remote Position at Marcura

About the Role

We are hiring an Entry-Level Data Engineer to join our team at Marcura. This Data Engineer remote position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the maritime technology sector, supporting nearly one-third of the world's seaborne commodity trade. You will play a vital role in building scalable data structures and implementing Data Vault 2.0 methodologies to ensure a flexible and auditable data foundation.

What You'll Do

• Contribute to data engineering best practices across pipeline design, data quality monitoring, storage, versioning, security, testing, documentation, cost, and error handling.
• Ensure successful daily DBT builds, including full test coverage of existing models, and create new data models in collaboration with data analysts.
• Develop and maintain data pipelines using tools such as Stitch, Fivetran, Segment, and Apache Airflow (Google Cloud Composer).
• Ensure data extraction jobs run successfully and collaborate with engineers to add new data sets.
• Support the evolution of our BigQuery schema to accommodate Data Vault 2.0 structures for long-term scalability.
• Implement and monitor automated data quality checks and observability to ensure the accuracy and reliability of downstream reporting.
• Manage and enforce granular access control policies within BigQuery and GCP.
• Ensure compliance with security standards and data privacy regulations, maintaining clear documentation of lineage and metadata.

Requirements

• Solid understanding and hands-on experience with Data Vault 2.0 methodologies.
• Experience with Google BigQuery and Cloud Composer (Apache Airflow).
• Proficiency in DBT for data transformation and data quality testing.
• Practical experience managing data access controls and security best practices.
• Experience with managed ELT services like Fivetran, Stitch, or Segment.
• Ability to work effectively in a fully remote, distributed team environment.

Nice to Have

• Familiarity with additional data modeling techniques.
• Experience in the maritime industry or related fields.
• Knowledge of programming languages such as Python or SQL.
