CTO Advisor - Crypto-Native Remote
About the Role
We’re seeking a hands-on CTO Advisor - Crypto-Native Remote to stabilize reliability, stop regressions, and reduce Sev-1 incidents. In this advisory role, you will install a lightweight SDLC/SRE/MLOps cadence and leave behind simple runbooks and dashboards that the team can operate. This is a unique opportunity to shape the engineering practices of Token Metrics, a leader in AI-driven on-chain indices and analytics.
What You'll Do
- Establish release gates in CI/CD, including tests, coverage, static checks, feature flags, and canary/shadow deployments.
- Implement SRE fundamentals by defining 3–5 SLOs such as data freshness, job success rate, API latency/availability, and exception closure time, along with an error-budget policy.
- Enforce Change & Exceptions Logs and drive post-mortems for Sev-1/2 incidents with actionable items and assigned owners.
- Collaborate with the Quant team to enhance AI index safety through model/versioning, parity tests, and drift/health alerts.
- Produce concise runbooks and dashboards, coach engineering leads, and ensure a smooth handover of systems.
What You Won’t Do
- No day-to-day people management or sprint ownership.
- No wallet signatory or payment approvals.
- No changes to liquidity or emissions policy, which is managed by the $TMAI council.
Requirements
- Must have 4+ years of experience leading engineering in crypto, covering areas such as protocol/DeFi, exchanges, and market/data infrastructure.
- Proven experience with SDLC, DevOps, CI/CD, and SRE practices including SLOs and error budgets.
- Experience in shipping data/ML systems or MLOps fundamentals, including versioning and safe rollout practices.
- Excellent technical writing skills and ability to collaborate asynchronously.
Nice-to-Have
- Experience with smart-contract security and audit handoffs.
- Familiarity with keys, secrets, and multisig hygiene.
- Prior work with index/market-data pipelines or exchange connectivity.
Success Metrics (First 90 Days)
- Reliability: Achieve a measurable reduction in failures, targeting a 20% decrease in Sev-1 incidents and a 30% reduction in regression escapes.
- Hygiene: Ensure 100% of production changes are pre-logged, conduct Sev-1 post-mortems with action items completed within 72 hours, and maintain live SLOs reported monthly.
- Adoption: Ensure release gates and runbooks are actively used by designated owners without advisor involvement.
Collaboration
You will work closely with the Operating Chair for monthly business reviews, the Quant team for AI indices, $TMAI observers for liquidity dependencies, and the Finance & Controls team for audit evidence.
How to Apply
Please share the following:
- A redacted SLO document you authored.
- A redacted incident/runbook you wrote.
- Two sentences on your biggest reliability turnaround and the gate you added afterward.
