About the Role

We're excited to announce an opportunity for a Creative Technologist Intern - Autonomous Vehicle Fleet at Zoox. This internship is a unique chance to dive into the world of autonomous vehicles, where you'll help shape the future of passenger experiences. As a Creative Technologist, you will work closely with various teams to ideate and prototype innovative hardware and software solutions, ensuring that our autonomous fleet meets the highest standards of user experience.

What You'll Do

  • Prototype multimodal experiences for autonomous vehicles at various fidelity levels, utilizing tools like Figma, ProtoPie, and Unity.
  • Conduct usability testing on passenger-facing interfaces, focusing on perceived safety, trust, and interaction intuitiveness.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with designers, vehicle engineers, software teams, and operations to integrate prototypes within vehicle constraints.
  • Utilize our prototyping laboratory for electro-mechanical prototyping and hardware-software integration.
  • Document technical specifications and design intent for handoff to engineering teams, presenting design concepts to stakeholders for feedback.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a B.S., M.S., or advanced degree in Design Engineering, Mechatronics, HCI, or a related field.
  • Good academic standing and able to commit to a 12-week internship starting in May or June 2026.
  • At least one previous industry internship, co-op, or hands-on project in a relevant area.
  • Ability to relocate to the Bay Area, California for the duration of the internship.
  • A portfolio demonstrating your prototyping and design experiences.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with programming languages (Python, C++, JavaScript/TypeScript) and modern web frameworks (React, Vue.js).
  • Familiarity with real-time 3D engines (Unreal Engine, Unity) and automotive systems (CAN bus, embedded Linux, ROS).
  • Hands-on experience with microcontrollers (Arduino, Raspberry Pi) or electronics prototyping.
