About the Role

We are seeking a Built Heritage Register Coordinator to join our team remotely. In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining the City’s Heritage Register, processing requests related to non-designated properties, and undertaking historic research. This position offers a unique opportunity to influence heritage conservation practices while working closely with the Heritage Planning Unit.

What You'll Do

  • Manage the City’s Heritage Register, ensuring accurate documentation and compliance with the Ontario Heritage Act.
  • Process requests related to non-designated properties and prepare related reports.
  • Design and deliver assigned heritage inventory projects, contributing to the City’s cultural heritage resources.
  • Support Unit communications and participate in assigned projects to enhance heritage planning policy.
  • Conduct historical research and apply best practices in heritage conservation methodologies.

Requirements

  • A 4-year degree in History, Urban Planning, Heritage Conservation, Architectural History, Geography, or a related field.
  • At least 3 years of experience in historical or archival research, heritage conservation, or urban planning.
  • Strong knowledge of the Ontario Heritage Act and heritage conservation best practices.
  • Excellent analytical, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications and project management techniques.

Nice to Have

  • Familiarity with municipal legislative/approval processes.
  • Knowledge of health and safety legislation related to heritage conservation.
