We're excited to announce an opening for a Remote 2D Game Design Intern at Playpower Labs. This role is perfect for energetic individuals who have a passion for art and design, and are eager to explore the intersection of creativity and technology. As a Remote 2D Game Design Intern, you will be instrumental in shaping the visual aspects of our AI-powered educational games, making learning engaging and fun for young learners.

What You'll Do

  • Help design immersive game worlds, characters, and visual themes that bring educational content to life.
  • Create game UI screens, from initial concepts to high-fidelity mockups using Figma.
  • Design 2D game assets including characters, objects, backgrounds, icons, and UI components.
  • Develop mood boards, color palettes, and cohesive style treatments suitable for K–8 learners.
  • Generate and refine game art using AI tools, curating and editing outputs to meet visual standards.
  • Edit and composite AI-generated outputs in Photoshop and Figma to produce production-ready assets.
  • Collaborate with designers, developers, and learning specialists to iterate quickly on designs.

Requirements

  • Strong visual design fundamentals: color, composition, typography, layout, and hierarchy.
  • A keen eye for art direction with sensitivity to designing for children.
  • Ability to work with AI art tools (like ChatGPT, Midjourney) and traditional editing tools (Photoshop, Figma).
  • Eager to experiment and push creative boundaries.
  • Hands-on experience with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator).
  • Proficiency in Figma, including components and prototyping.
  • Illustration or character design skills are a plus.

Nice to Have

  • Basic animation skills using tools like Lottie, After Effects, or Spine.
  • Prior experience designing for EdTech, children's products, or 2D games.
