Safety & Hazardous Materials Specialist - Remote Opportunity

About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated Safety & Hazardous Materials Specialist to join our team at Continental. This remote opportunity allows you to contribute to our global testing organization, focusing on the development and execution of tailored testing methods in the field of tire research and development. As a Safety & Hazardous Materials Specialist, you will play a crucial role in ensuring workplace safety and compliance with hazardous materials management.

What You'll Do

• Organize workplace health, safety, and environmental protection initiatives, including safety and environmental inspections.
• Oversee the maintenance of all risk assessments, including medical mandatory and offer care, while providing technical support to departments throughout the process.
• Monitor first responder, evacuation, and fire safety training quotas, including reporting, training initiation, and escalation as needed.
• Coordinate safety-related training sessions, including assignment tracking, KPI monitoring, and adaptation of central training programs to specific areas.
• Prepare, conduct, and follow up on workplace safety committee meetings, including presentation creation (in German and English) and documentation of all relevant ESH topics.
• Support and coordinate ergonomic assessments to enhance workplace safety and comfort.
• Act as a Chemical Supervisor for hazardous materials management, including the evaluation and approval of new chemicals, management of the hazardous materials register, and ensuring compliance with REACH/CLP regulations.
• Assist departments with substitution assessments, exposure evaluations, EMKG classifications, and reporting.
• Contribute to ESH-related projects to enhance safety standards and practices.

Requirements

• Completed scientific vocational training, preferably in Chemistry.
• Several years of professional experience in laboratory environments or chemical production.
• Further education in ESH management, such as occupational safety management (BGRCI).
• Strong knowledge of hazardous materials law and safety data sheets (REACH, CLP, GefStoffV) with proficiency in digital hazardous materials systems.
• Excellent German and good English communication skills, both written and spoken, along with proficiency in MS Office and other digital tools.
• High social competence, reliable communication, and the ability to collaborate with multiple stakeholders.
• Structured and solution-oriented working style with a sense of responsibility.
• Experience working in international teams and project management experience is a plus.

Nice to Have

• Experience in safety audits and compliance assessments.
• Knowledge of risk management frameworks.
• Familiarity with ISO standards related to safety and environmental management.
