Map /​ Cartography Artist (2D) - Remote Opportunity

About the Role

We are seeking a talented Map / Cartography Artist (2D) to join our team remotely. In this role, you will create stunning world maps and locations for a fantasy project, contributing to the visual storytelling of our game. As a Map / Cartography Artist (2D), you will have the opportunity to shape the visual language of the maps, including terrain, nature, cities, and symbols.

What You'll Do

• Create immersive game maps and locations for a fantasy project.
• Develop the visual language of the map, focusing on terrain, nature, cities, and symbols.
• Design heraldry including coats of arms, faction symbols, and decorative frames.
• Work with typography to create names for regions, cities, rivers, legends, and map annotations.
• Prepare final maps for use in the game, refining them based on feedback from the art director and UI team.
• Maintain a relevant portfolio showcasing maps for games, books, or tabletop RPGs.
• Demonstrate proficiency in Photoshop or similar editing software.
• Exhibit a strong understanding of composition, cartographic principles, and attention to detail.

Requirements

• Experience as a Map / Cartography Artist (2D) or similar role.
• Strong portfolio showcasing relevant work in game maps or similar projects.
• Proficiency in Photoshop or comparable design tools.
• Understanding of composition and cartography fundamentals.
• Attention to detail and accuracy in map creation.

Nice to Have

• Experience working on CRPGs, tabletop RPGs, or fantasy books and encyclopedias.
• Familiarity with fantasy lore (D&D, Pathfinder, Middle-Earth, etc.).
• Skills in stylizing maps to resemble antique maps, parchment, or engravings.
• Artistic or relevant educational background with a passion for games and fantasy settings.
