Map /​ Cartography Artist (2D) - Remote Opportunity

About the Role

We are seeking a talented Map / Cartography Artist (2D) to join our remote team. As a Map / Cartography Artist, you will create immersive game maps and locations for a fantasy project. This role offers an exciting opportunity to bring your artistic vision to life while working in a collaborative environment.

What You'll Do

• Create detailed world maps and locations for a fantasy project.
• Develop the visual language of the map, including terrain, nature, cities, and symbols.
• Design heraldry, including coats of arms, faction symbols, and decorative frames.
• Work with typography for region/city/river names, legends, and map annotations.
• Prepare final maps for game use, refining them based on feedback from the art director and UI team.
• Maintain a relevant portfolio showcasing maps for games, books, or tabletop RPGs.
• Demonstrate proficiency in Photoshop or similar editing software.
• Exhibit a strong understanding of composition and cartography fundamentals, ensuring readability and landscape logic.

Requirements

• Proven experience as a Map / Cartography Artist (2D) or similar role.
• Strong portfolio demonstrating relevant work in game maps or illustrations.
• Proficiency in Photoshop or equivalent graphic design tools.
• Attention to detail and a keen eye for composition and readability.
• Understanding of cartographic principles and landscape logic.
• Ability to work collaboratively with an art team.
• Experience in creating maps for CRPGs, tabletop RPGs, or fantasy literature is a plus.

Nice to Have

• Experience with CRPGs or tabletop RPGs.
• Familiarity with fantasy lore (D&D, Pathfinder, Middle-Earth, etc.).
• Skills in stylizing maps to resemble antique styles, parchment, or engravings.
• Artistic or relevant educational background, with a passion for gaming and fantasy settings.
