IT Support Specialist - Remote Position for CMS Experiment
About the Role
We are seeking an IT Support Specialist for the CMS Experiment at CERN. This role is crucial as you will serve as the primary contact between the CMS experiment and the CERN IT department. As an IT Support Specialist, you will manage the virtual machine pool and ensure the smooth operation of Linux configurations, making this a vital position in our innovative environment.
What You'll Do
- Act as the liaison between the CMS experiment and CERN's IT department.
- Manage virtual machine allocations for the experiment using OpenStack.
- Coordinate storage allocations with computing management and detector/physics organizations of CMS.
- Set up, configure, and administer existing VMs of the experiment using Puppet.
- Provide backup support for the management of the CVMFS content.
- Assist colleagues in the system administration of VMs.
Requirements
- Experience with Linux system administration and service configuration.
- Familiarity with shell scripting and Python.
- Experience with cloud systems, particularly OpenStack, is a plus.
- Knowledge of ticketing systems and computing service support is advantageous.
- Strong knowledge of system administrator tools like Puppet.
- Ability to thrive in a multi-cultural environment.
- Spoken and written English proficiency, with a commitment to learn French.

- Familiarity with CERN's operational procedures.
