About the Role

We are seeking a Head of Policy - Europe/UK to join our team at Adyen. This senior role is pivotal in shaping modern payments policy across Europe and the UK, ensuring that our operations align with regulatory frameworks while fostering innovation. As the Head of Policy, you will engage with key stakeholders and regulators, driving policy outcomes that simplify transactions and enhance the customer experience.

What You'll Do

  • Advance EU/UK policy priorities: Own the regional agenda to enable cross-border commerce, reduce friction in payments and banking, and drive increased harmonization and competition across the European market.
  • Connect policy and product: Collaborate closely with Product, Regulatory, Legal, Compliance, and Risk teams to translate regulatory changes into product opportunities and mitigate risks.
  • Lead senior regulatory engagement: Maintain trusted relationships with EU and UK regulators, central banks, and policymakers, representing Adyen in high-stakes forums with judgment and credibility.
  • Deliver high-quality external work: Work with our Regulatory and Communications team to draft Adyen’s positions and drive consultations, submissions, and briefings that influence outcomes for our business and customers.
  • Build thought leadership and coalitions: Strengthen Adyen’s voice with industry groups and ecosystem partners, advancing a pragmatic agenda that supports innovation and strong safeguards.
  • Enable customer participation: Collaborate with Regulatory and Commercial teams to create targeted opportunities for merchants and platforms to engage in policy discussions through briefings, roundtables, and aligned advocacy.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in payments, financial services, fintech, or public policy, with deep expertise in EU and UK regulations.
  • Strong strategic vision to help Europe and the UK realize their economic and simplification goals.
  • Established senior-level relationships with EU and UK financial regulators and policymakers.
  • Fluent understanding of payments and banking business models, merchant needs, and product trade-offs.
  • Excellent writing skills, capable of producing strong submissions, briefs, and narratives.
  • Pragmatic and outcomes-driven, with sharp judgment and strong credibility.

Nice to Have

  • Experience in leading cross-functional teams.
  • Knowledge of emerging fintech trends and technologies.
  • Proficiency in additional European languages.
