Foreperson, Elevating Devices - Remote Opportunity
About the Role
We are excited to announce an opportunity for a Foreperson, Elevating Devices to join our team at the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC). This remote position will allow you to lead and manage maintenance activities for our elevating devices, ensuring safe and efficient operations.
What You'll Do
- Direct supervision over the maintenance work performed on various elevating devices.
- Supervise and inspect cleaning, modification, overhaul, maintenance, and repair work on electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic components.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and applicable codes during all maintenance activities.
- Conduct training sessions and quality audits for unionized employees and contractors.
- Prepare and maintain records, generating reports and summaries related to maintenance work.
- Coordinate annual inspections of elevating devices with the Technical Standards & Safety Authority (TSSA).
- Investigate accidents and prepare mandatory reports for TSSA.
- Promote a respectful work environment that supports diversity and inclusion.
Requirements
- Completion of a post-secondary college diploma or university degree in a related discipline.
- A Certificate of Qualification as an Escalator Mechanic or equivalent is considered an asset.
- Extensive technical knowledge and several years of practical experience in elevating devices.
- Ability to comprehend blueprints and possess strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Thorough knowledge of the Elevating Devices Act and B-44 Safety Code.
- Valid, non-probationary Class “G” driver’s license.
- Must be computer literate and able to quickly acquire knowledge of relevant systems.
- Successful applicants will be required to obtain an Elevating Devices Safety Certificate.
Nice to Have
- Elevating Device Mechanic Class F (EDM-F) certification or higher.
- Knowledge of Quality/Continuous Improvement concepts.
- Understanding of Project Management principles.
