Staff Software Engineer - Developer Experience for Healthcare Automation

About the Role

We are seeking a Staff Software Engineer, Developer Experience to join our innovative team at Smarter Technologies. This remote position focuses on enhancing the developer experience within our Core Engineering team. As a leader in healthcare technology, we leverage AI and automation to transform revenue cycle management, and your contributions will directly impact how our engineers work and collaborate.

What You'll Do

• Build the Developer Platform: Design and implement internal tools, workflows, and infrastructure that enhance the developer experience across the company.
• Own the DevEx Ecosystem: Improve our monorepo tooling, CI/CD pipelines, build systems, and documentation to facilitate efficient navigation and codebase extension.
• Design for Humans and AI: Evolve our development environment for AI-assisted coding and agentic workflows, structuring documentation and code patterns for optimal collaboration.
• Enable and Educate Engineers: Act as a developer advocate, running internal training sessions, writing documentation, and assisting teams in adopting new tools and workflows.
• Drive Platform Improvements: Collaborate across infrastructure and platform layers, including CI/CD pipelines, build tooling, Kubernetes environments, and infrastructure automation.
• Lead with Ownership: Define and extend your own scope, proactively identifying problems and building solutions that elevate our engineering standards.

Requirements

• Strong software engineering fundamentals with experience in building production systems.
• Passion for developer experience and internal tooling.
• Experience in building or improving developer platforms, build systems, or internal tools.
• Familiarity with CI/CD systems such as GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or similar.
• Experience with cloud infrastructure and platform tooling (e.g., Kubernetes, Terraform, containerized environments).
• Experience working in or contributing to large codebases or monorepos.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
